Minister of Electricity and Energy, Ahmed Imam said that Egypt will not suffer from frequent blackouts thanks to the electrical interconnection project with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, KSA.
The Minister pointed out that this project with KSA will provide nearly 3000 megawatts that can be used during the peak hours in Egypt. He added that this means that Egypt will face no power outage or plans for reduction of loads during the next summer season.
Minister Imam noted that a shortage of natural gas, necessary to operate power plants, caused the blackouts, asserting that the nine companies for electricity distribution had to reduce loads.
For his part, Gaber El-Dosoki, Chairman of the Egyptian Electric Holding Company, said that the Ministry of Electricity and Energy coordinated with the Ministry of Petroleum to secure the needed amounts of natural gas and heavy oil that would be used to run the power plants until the beginning of next summer.
