Port Harcourt — The Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, says the Nigerian Army has contributed significantly to the peace and stability enjoyed in the Niger Delta region, by providing maximum security to the people of the area and also secured critical national assets in the region.

Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sagir Musa, in a statement, said the Coordinator of PAP, Prof. Charles Dokubo, disclosed this at the Army Headquarters in Abuja, when he paid a courtesy visit on the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai.

Dokubo commended the Nigerian Army for their contribution towards safeguarding lives and properties in Niger Delta and, solicited for more cooperation, partnership, and collaboration from the Army to facilitate the entrenchment of lasting peace, in order to fast-track socio-economic development.

According to him, “Our region is now relatively calm, peaceful and safe. We now have streams of developmental projects and activities taking place in Niger Delta.

“This was made possible by the remarkable contributions of the Army and other security agencies who provided maximum security to the people of Niger Delta and their properties.

“The Army has also provided adequate security for the oil companies and exploration activities to thrive in our region. In a nutshell, they have provided an enabling environment for peace, security, stability, and development of our richly-endowed Niger Delta region,” Dokubo said.

Responding, the Chief of Army Staff, Leut. Gen. Tukur Buratai, expressed appreciation for the visit, assuring that the Army will not relent in protecting the country, her teeming citizenry and valuable assets from any internal or external aggression.

Buratai, represented by the Army’s Chief of Policy and Plans, Lt. Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, assured Prof. Dokubo of Army’s commitment to effectively partner with the Amnesty Program’s team in order for them to actualize their set objectives and clear-cut goals.
