Lagos — Digitalisation, innovation and emerging new technologies will be on the table at the upcoming Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists, NAPE conference in November.
During a press conference held in Lagos on Thursday, the outgoing President and host, FNAPE Ajibola Oyebanji said this year’s theme ‘Expanding Nigeria’s Petroleum Landscape: Digitalisation, Innovation, and Emerging New Technologies’, will be deliberating on the petroleum business and regulatory environment with a view to addressing the challenges of exploration and production in the onshore, offshore and Nigeria’s frontier basins, as well as seek new approaches for exploration and production in the Cretaceous and Cenozoic basins using innovations, emerging technologies and digitalisation.
“Technology is the heart of all the significant achievements in the oil and gas industry. The way hydrocarbon is discovered, developed and produced, has been impacted by evolutionary technologies that have emerged since the Drake well of 1859. But the challenge is how far has Nigeria traveled down the technology road?” he asked.
This year’s conference holding from November 17-21 in Lagos will host high-level industry practitioners, key personnel in government and the academia including NNPC’s Group Managing Director, Mallam Mele Kyari- the speakers will be delivering eight sub-themes namely: petroleum business and regulatory environment, contributions of indigenous/marginal field operators, talent management, capacity and the next generation of E&P managers, alternative resources, and exploration and production activities and the environment and others.
There would also be four major formats during the conference: pre-conference workshop, exhibition, industry awards, and learning opportunities including a session for women in Geosciences and engineering forum themed ‘Learn, Inspire, Connect-Empowering Women in a Digital Economy’.
